OVERVIEW

Spanish wines are well known in all over the world. The Iberian Wines are ones of the best in Europe. Rioja wines are probably the ones you first remind!!!

But Spain is large and offer numerous denomination less known to the traveler. Castilla & León Comunity is one of the biggest in Spain, full of history that goes far before the romans who brought the vineyards to the more modern ways of making the wine.

We propose with this tour a comprehensive approach to the wine culture of Castilla Y León. We invite the traveler to experience the land and culture of the different wine regions visited.

Wines from several of the denominations like: Ribeira del Duero, Toro, Cigales, Rueda, Arribes del Duero and Sierra de Francia, are to be tasted and cellars to be visited.

To reach these areas we will travel and hike, this is a wonderful way of experience the villages, towns, natural environment, and non-the less the vineyards.

Wines of Castilla y León hiking tour is just a more active way of discovering part of Spain, while hiking and tasting the Iberian culture. Find yourself in different sceneries and find a perfect mixt of sensations and rest from the day today of big cities....

ITINERARY

DAY 1 - MADRID TO SIERRA DE FRANCIA

Our guide will welcome you at the meeting point in Madrid after Lunch. Transfer to Sierra de Francia and La Alberca Village, one of the most beautiful villages of Spain.

DAY 2 - HIKE SIERRA DE FRANCIA | 12,9 Kms

After a small transfer to Miranda del Castañar. One of the beautiful towns of the area of Sierra de Francia Natural Park, from here we will hike thru vineyards and forested hill. This path links Miranda to another small village: Villa Nueva del conde. In the way some art is exposed by the path, why not immerse yourself with nature and the thoughts of the artist. After this circular Hike, will stop at Mogarraz for a Wine tasting and visit the “Bodega”. A stroll in the village will offer another way of looking at this area of Spain.

DAY 3 - VISIT SIEGA VERDE. PALEOLITHIC ROCK ART

This day is dedicated to travel from Sierra de Francia Wine region to The Arribas Wine area, in the Natural Park of Duero international by the Portuguese border. In the way, a stop at Siega Verde archeological Site. Place where several rock engravings have being discovered, some with more than 20000 years… After the visit we will take the direction of Fermoselle in the Wine region of Las Arribas. Before another stop can be made at an Iron settlement of Yecla belonging to the pre-roman settlers the Veton tribes… I

DAY 4 - FERMOSELLE HIKE 9.3km

The town of Fermoselle is located by a deep valley, the Duero/ Douro Valley. It is the actual border between Portugal and Spain, and today this area is an international Natural protected area. We are in the Wine region of Arribas, several wine makers have their wineries around and in the town. Our hike will take us in the surroundings of the Town, vineyards, olive trees, and mixt vegetation will be the scenic of today, with the river Duero as it’s main background. The day will finish with a well deserved wine tasting and dinner…

DAY 5 - VISIT TORO

After Arribas wine region we travel towards the Ribera del Duero Area. On the way we will stop at Toro Town, visit its center and have lunch at Toro. Toro area is also an denomination area for wine. Why not explore under the streets, several ancient Bodegas (wineries) have their cellars under the ground. Lets have a look. By mid afternoon we continue our travel to Peñafiel and his amaz- ing old town and castle perched on top of the hill… We have arrived in the Wine Region of Ribera del Duero….

DAY 6 - HIKE RIBERA DEL DUERO VINES 18,4km

Back to the river banks of the Duero river… we have follow it more or less upriver… The area is a lot different from the previous we visit. We are at the “meseta” it is like a plateau and above the 800m in altitude which gives a unique taste to the wine… Our hike will take us thru some vineyards and up some hills, pass a little village stopped in time. We will have time to see some bur- ied bodegas and when back to Peñafiel have time to taste this Ri- beira del duero wine at a winery.

DAY 7 - HIKE CIGALES WINE COUNTRY 15,8km

After an early breakfast we head to Cigales wine region, it is not far away, but still an hour away from our hotel. This area is also at altitudes of 800m, and the flat terrain around make the vineyard well exposed to the harsh winter, and very hot summer. From Cygales town we will hike to Corco little village and back via another path. Thru the vineyards we will discover how they make wine and why some bodegas are buried . On the way back a stop in Valladolid to have a stroll in the old center. Once back in Peñafiel time to spend in the town…

DAY 8 - DEPARTURE

Transfer to Madrid, with a visit and lunch at Segovia.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Discover some wine regions of Spain that are not very known. Sierra de Francia is probably the least expetecd area, but the area is of real beauti and have magnificen old villages. Arribes Region is embeded in a natural park, international divided between Portugal and Spain. Toro and Cygales are also very peculiar. The main area for wine lover will be the Ribeira del Duero and their world renown wines.
You can expect discover a gastronomy that changes thru the tour. Wines and ways of making it peculiar to the regions. Some grape veriaty that are local and not known elsewhere.
All of this while hiking, many days in between the vineyards…
